If you're looking for a moderately powerful machine to do work on, the Acer Chromebook Spin 713 is a good fit, assuming you don't need the full application support Windows 11 offers. It has one of the nicest screens I've seen on a Chromebook, and the build is strong and robust and feels like it'll last a while. Plus, the keyboard and trackpad are a joy to use. As for what's going on under the hood, it's surprisingly powerful. You expect peppy performance. So long as you don't mind that it's a bit on the heavier side and that it doesn't come with a stylus included, then this is a solid option.

The Acer Chromebook Spin 713 is absolutely one of the best Chromebooks out there right now with a combination of performance, design quality, and battery life, but the lack of an included stylus is downright strange for a 2-in-1 and the design takes few aesthetic risks.

The $699 Acer Chromebook Spin 713 is a solid Chromebook with a lot going for it. It is definitely more of a power user device given the hardware it’s running. You could also make the argument that it is overpowered for a Chrome OS device given that most of what the operating system is designed to do can be accomplished with much less expensive hardware. For a student or professional that may want to dabble in Linux or test their Android or web apps, this hardware definitely fits the bill. That said, if you’ve already experienced Chrome OS and are enamored with it (or want to take it to the next level), you can’t go wrong with the Chromebook Spin 713. It truly has a lot going for it, including it’s fantastic screen and solid build quality. It has every port most users need on a day-to-day basis. It also has class leading performance, making it great for business users, students and the home tech enthusiast.

So that’s the Acer Chromebook Spin 713 in 2021. It’s fast, it has all the internals you could want, all the I/O you could want, and what I consider the best screen available on a Chromebook right now. Aside from a bit of a boring aesthetic, average keyboard and battery life, and bad speakers, this Chromebook smashes it on so many levels. Putting together a review for a great device like this is easy. At $699, this Chromebook delivers what you expect in a high-end laptop at more mid-range prices. It’s so easy to recommend, and though it will likely be on sale at multiple points between now and the end of the year, even at MSRP, it is 100% worth the money. Acer’s done it again, and now it’s up to everyone else to catch up.

You don't mess with a winning formula. Acer was content to juice up its new Chromebook with the latest-generation Intel Core processors and Thunderbolt 4 ports that'll work with better accessories, including some Macbook ones. The Spin 713 still has one of the best screens on the market and has eight full years of Chrome OS updates ahead of it.

The stable of high-end Chromebooks keeps growing, and you might not be able to distinguish one from a Windows counterpart at first glance. Among the newest is the convertible 2-in-1 Acer Chromebook Spin 713, which was just updated for 2021 with new internal components and some Chromebook firsts. Namely, the Chromebook Spin 713 is now the first Intel Evo-certified Chromebook and the first Chromebook to offer full Thunderbolt 4 support. Acer sent me a midrange version of the Chromebook Spin 713, priced at $700 for an 11th-gen Intel Core i5-1035G7 CPU, 8GB of DDR4 RAM, a 256GB solid-state drive (SSD), and a 13.5-inch display in the taller 3:2 aspect ratio and with a 2K (2256 x 1504) resolution. That’s not cheap for a Chromebook, but the price fits the components. Note that you can spend more if you opt for a Core i7 and 16GB of RAM. Does the Acer Chromebook Spin 713 have what it takes to compete with the latest and greatest Chromebooks?

Acer has a winning combination on its hands with the Chromebook Spin 713. This convertible offers top-notch performance, one of the best screens we've seen this year, and flexible port options in a toughened chassis that withstands abuse. Battery life could be better, as could the speakers, but overall the Spin 713 has it where it counts.

Acer's new 2021 Chromebook Spin 713 has a lot going for it. Decent performance, good hardware, and lots of ports meet a roomy screen that's closer to 4:3 than 16:9. We love this aspect ration for productivity, writing, and web browsing, and the tall screen allows for a roomy trackpad. The downsides are a chunky case, and only so-so battery life, but we still feel this is one of the better Chromebooks out there.

To illustrate just how much this device is offering for its $699 price, look to the premium Google Pixelbook Go. To buy a Pixelbook Go with an 8th Gen Core i5 (which is now an old chip), 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage (half of what you get in this Spin configuration), you’d be paying $849. The Pixelbook does have some advantages over the Spin, of course: you’re getting better build quality, a lighter chassis, and slightly better audio. But the Pixelbook has no biometric authentication, it has very few ports and doesn’t support Thunderbolt 4, it’s 16:9, and it’s not a convertible. It’s miles behind in almost every other way.

Basically, the Acer Chromebook Spin 713 lives up to Intel's Evo verification. It wakes instantly, it's just as responsive on battery power as it is plugged in, has a long battery life, charges quickly and, with Thunderbolt 4 and Wi-Fi 6, it has fast wired and wireless connections. The two-in-one design is useful to have, especially when using Android apps. There's no pen support and it's a bit thick in tablet mode, but overall I find Chrome more enjoyable with a touchscreen. Even if you only plan to use it as a laptop, I'd still recommend it. The Spin 713 feels like the first glimpse of the next 10 years for Chromebooks.

In other words, if you don’t mind a laptop-cart look, the Chromebook Spin 713 is an incredible value. The more power-hungry processor has changed the calculus slightly, but so have the new features. And ultimately, the Spin still comes out on top.
