HTC has pulled off a blinder with the HTC One. It’s a gorgeous phone with a beautiful screen, and we think it's a more desirable handset than the Sony Xperia Z. Given you can move BlinkFeed out of view, the HTC should appeal to everyone. It will be especially tempting to those who crave the low-light capabilities of its camera. Its metal chassis is also a big selling point - and one, based on past models, that is unlikely to appear on the Samsung Galaxy S4.

Evenly matched on price, cameras and performance, the HTC One wins on storage and display, whilst the iPhone 5c may just edge it on battery life. Build quality and software are of a similar quality but different. But if you have no strong feelings on design or Android/iOS, you need to opt for the HTC.

The HTC One might be the most desirable phone available right now. Its metal-backed body feels fantastic in the hand, its screen is superb, performance is great and Sense 5 offers some interesting new features that you can choose to side-step if you prefer old-style Sense. The UltraPixel camera is a mite disappointing given the ballyhoo made at its launch, but it proves that HTC is one of just a few mobile companies trying something truly interesting.

As we said, this is the best HTC phone ever, without a doubt. But we'll go one better than that: it's the best phone on the market full stop. The Samsung Galaxy S4 isn't far behind at all with its stunning screen and rich detail, but for sheer level of functionality, innovation and just overall effect it has in the hand, we can't help but recommend the HTC One to anyone looking to buy a new smartphone. So whether it's the Ultrapixel camera that extends the range of photos you can take, or the moving photos on offer, or simply the improved speakers bolted on the front (as long as you don't play them on public transport) the HTC One takes the best the smartphone market has to offer and just makes it better.

You should buy SIM free, and therefore you should buy the Nexus 5. Both are great handsets, but the Nexus 5 is priced to shift. However, if you are likely to purchase on contract, you have a choice to make between two brilliant Android phones. Either way you'll be happy.

The HTC One is up there with the very best smartphones on the market today. It has superb performance, and excellent build quality spoiled only slightly by running hot in use. You can't fault the feature set, and it matches the other high-end products in terms of price. In terms of audio and visual output it is unsurpassed. The interface might be an acquired taste for some, and we weren't overly impressed with the camera. It's not perfect, but alongside the Xperia Z and iPhone 5 this is about as good a phone as you can buy.

It’s no secret that HTC are trying very hard to regain market share from Samsung after a steady decline over the past few years. There is no doubt in our minds that the One is the best phone that HTC have released in some time as it cannot really be faulted. The only drawback of the HTC One is the lack of expandable storage. The 32 GB version may not provide enough space for some users and the 64 GB version carries a heavy price premium. Camera performance was very good though, despite the low resolution sensor.

The HTC One blends an unmatched premium design for Android phones with impressive performance, a beautiful 1080p display and rich, front-mounted speakers. HTC Sense 5.0, with its Blinkfeed feature, adds flavor to the stock Android OS. And while Samsung's TouchWiz software offers more features, Sense has a cleaner look and feel and suffers from less lag.

Android enthusiasts can be a demanding group. The call for pure-Android versions of flagships other than the Nexus range has been a consistent one, and it will be interesting to see how many Google Play Edition phones actually get bought. Adding to the muddle is the pricing: the HTC comes in at $599, the Samsung more expensive again at $649. What the two Google Play Edition phones offer is a compromise somewhere in-between. The freedom of pure Android and the freshness and undeniable appeal of flagship hardware. It’s a compromise that comes at a cost, and it’s one with the risk of still relying on manufacturers for new software rather than getting it straight from Google, but if your wallet is deep enough then the pure Android experience, liberation from carrier subsidies, and top-tier specifications make them each excellent, if niche, options.

Despite a few caveats when considered as a package the HTC One looks impressive, is fast and easy to use. However the HTC One is unlikely to get even close to selling as many units as the juggernaut Galaxy S4 aided by Samsung’s massive marketing spend.

On balance, the HTC One justifies that premium. The loss of expandable storage is a blow, but there’s little else amiss: it’s a stylish and highly capable all-rounder. HTC needed to come out fighting with its latest handset, and it’s done so with gusto: the One is the finest smartphone money can buy at the time of writing. The only serious competitor on the horizon is the Samsung Galaxy S4, which had been announced but hadn’t officially launched when we went to print. For now at least, HTC has a real winner on its hands, but one wonders if it can translate this into a real comeback.

If you've been eyeing the HTC One as your next smartphone, it's safe to say that T-Mobile offers a very compelling option. By and large, the handset is a faithful interpretation of the original, which is all the more reason to fall in love. When you pick up the HTC One, you instantly get the sense that this is a high-end phone with plenty to offer. The One’s outer shell aesthetically pleasing and gives the phone a high-end look. The agony of choice. The small version of the HTC One is the manufacturer's deliberate attack on the success story of the Galaxy S Mini series. HTC’s official retail price is Rs 36,790 but you can find it online for as low as Rs 33,000. Considering you can get much more powerful handsets for cheaper, the One mini is highly overpriced. In fact, the entire One series is overpriced and we can’t figure out why. If you love this sort of form factor, then we recommend you take a look at the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini. It’s almost Rs 10,000 cheaper, is lighter, has more RAM and support for microSD card up to 64GB, a faster CPU (1.7GHz), a bigger battery and has IR. The S4 mini is no competition to the One mini in terms of build quality and design, but then again, I find paying so much more for an aluminium shell a bit absurd.

The HTC One Mini was an attempt in HTC offering a smaller version of its popular HTC One. The HTC One Mini may not have the high-end specs of the HTC One, but for a product its size, it’s an extremely impressive smartphone. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a larger screen, more internal storage space and high-end specs, we wouldn’t blame you if you picked up the HTC One instead. The HTC One is a very nice mid-range smartphone. The phone cuts as few corners as humanly possible in its endeavour to offer users several of the full-sized One's strengths, including Ultrapixels and Zoe. For this reason, while we'd have liked to see a slightly speedier processor and longer battery life, the phone is still a good choice for business folk on a budget.

In fact, it makes us wonder whether Samsung will think about refreshing the Galaxy S4 Mini in the meantime, as it's now very likely to be second best to this little nugget - and even Apple's cheaper iPhone, which is likely coming later this year, will have more of a fight on its hands than it would have previously been expected to encounter.

The goal of the HTC One mini is to bring the high-end user experience of the original HTC One to a much larger market. This is never easy to do this, but I’ve been impressed by how HTC managed to optimize the cost structure, without proportionally altering the original experience. This is the result of a carefully planned extension of the HTC One line of product and overall, it works. In the meantime, I really recommend reading our HTC One review, since it will give you a very close idea of how it feels to use the HTC One mini.

The HTC One Mini hands-down the best looking Android phone under 30k. The phone’s clean user interface does full justice to its elegant design. As far as the look and feel goes, HTC has nailed it. We also liked its screen sharpness and sound quality. On the other hand, its camera and performance are not up to the mark. If HTC gets the price down by around five grand, we wouldn’t recommending this phone. However, at the moment the LG Nexus 5 and Nokia Lumia 925 are much better options in this price bracket.

Big brother. Step one: Take HTC's successful One smartphone and blow it up to a gigantic 5.9-inches with Full HD resolution. Step two: Add a swift Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core with an integrated Adreno 320 graphics card. Step three: Blend in 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, a big 3300 mAh battery and a fingerprint scanner. HTC's new One Max is complete. Is this recipe enough for a podium placement in the phablet category?

Whether or not you want a phone this big is a matter of personal taste. If you have a 6in smartphone you really don’t need a tablet, as a phone this size is perfectly big enough for casual web surfing. However, it does poke out the top of a jeans pocket, and you'll find you often can’t sit comfortably without taking the phone out and putting it on a table. It's also not particularly comfortable to hold for long phone calls, and it's not really practical to use the touchscreen one-handed.

The HTC One Max is a reasonably impressive example of a super-sized smartphone. We like the design, the screen and the battery life, but the phone’s performance doesn’t match its premium price, and the camera is substandard. We’d be tempted to save some money and find a grey imported Samsung Galaxy Mega instead. However, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is still king of the monster phones.

The official price of the One Max is Rs 56,490 but you can find it online for a little under Rs 50,000. This is a very high price for a phone that’s just a larger version of the HTC One with a fingerprint sensor. Not only that, the Max is also very inconvenient to live with everyday due to its large size and weighty body. Even of the phone does get a major price cut in the future; we wouldn’t recommend it since it’s a task to live with and HTC will be unveiling its successor in just a couple of days.

Our overall experience with the design and feel of the One Max was positive. The phone is heavy, but what you trade for weight you make up for in aesthetics and durability with an extra-rigid back cover. We weren’t overly fond of the placement of the fingerprint reader on the back of the phone since this often required us to turn the phone over in order to unlock it.

HTC's strategy has been to take a winning formula and adapt it to multiple device sizes and price points. For better or worse, the intended top-of-the-line One Max doesn't seem that much more of an improvement over the One. Ultimately, if given a choice between the One Max and the One, we'd go with the latter. With roughly the same power under the hood and even the same screen resolution, the One Max simply doesn't distinguish itself enough. It also doesn't help that it looks way cheaper than the One, and doesn't have any unique features apart from the forgettable fingerprint reader. If you're more focused on productive work, consider something like Samsung's latest Galaxy Note model. If you like the look and feel of this phone, you'll almost certainly prefer the smaller One. It's only if you're seriously in love with outsized phones and spend a lot of time gaming or watching videos that the One Max is worth considering.

The HTC One Max is a case of too much of a good thing. It comes with everything we loved in the original One, including best-in-class audio, a dynamic BlinkFeed interface and an appealing aluminum design. However, while having such a large screen is great, the software isn't optimized for a screen that size, and the design will be too bulky for many users.

The One Max doesn't have any glaring flaws, except that it's basically a reprise of the HTC One with a few new minor features. Regardless, the device is the whole package: speedy processor, capable camera, 1080p screen, and a custom Android interface that looks like someone actually spent some time designing and curating an interface fit for a phone. It’s still a really big device, however, and if your phone is often a pocket-dweller I'd suggest just sticking to the original One, especially since it will eventually receive the Sense 5.5 update.

The HTC One Max is a gorgeous Android device that offers a beautiful 5.9-inch display, powerful speakers and a premium chassis. And, unlike the Galaxy Note 3, this $249 handset delivers faster LTE data via Sprint's Spark network. However, the Max's monstrous dimensions and heft will likely prove too much to handle for most users.

If you enjoyed the hardware of the HTC One and want that same experience in a phablet, then the HTC One Max is a device we’re sure you’ll enjoy. It has the same internal specs, Ultrapixel camera, dual-stereo speakers and same feel of the HTC One, but just in a larger phone. The only real external difference between the two is the fingerprint sensor, which at times can be finicky.

Let's deal with the elephant in the room: the HTC One Max is big. Big, big, big. In moving up to what might be broadly termed the 6in phablet category, HTC has avoided any complicated redesign and taken the rather nice HTC One and made it bigger. Bigger and heavier. This is a high-quality and stylish slab of phone, but it's a big one. Big even when it is next to the Galaxy Note 3. Did we mention that it is big?

Having won four of our six categories, Samsung's retained its crown as king of the big screen smartphone makers. The Galaxy Note 3 has a better screen and processor and is far more comfortable to use than the HTC One Max. However, the Max does have some good qualities, featuring a better Ultrapixel camera and custom software that makes it far more pleasant to use as a media consumption tool.

HTC has a strong foundation upon which to build upon with the max, both the One and the One Mini are excellent smartphones with the One being crowned as T3's Phone of the Year at the T3 Gadget Awards 2013. It's not that the One max is a bad phone, in fact all of the specs on the One Max are impressive and they perform incredibly well, but ultimately it's the way in which you package these that counts and in this instance the Max just isn't practical.

Big though it may be, the One Max is still overshadowed by our expectations. It should have taken things further than the One, but instead it merely attempts to cash in on the One's reputation by allowing HTC to claim that it has a "family" of One devices -- devices that in reality have little in common with each other beyond their superficial appearance.

The One max was the obvious next step for HTC’s range. “We’re very committed to being tight with the product portfolio” HTC told us, contrasting its scattershot approach of old – different devices for every different carrier, and for every different possible market niche – with a new age of restraint. The company is particularly proud of the fact that the One max will launch with that branding universally, rather than being renamed on Verizon.

We won't pull any punches. The HTC One Max doesn't come close to hitting the heights of the HTC One. It's a phone that's designed to serve a very singular purpose - give those that liked the look of the One a phone with a bigger screen, and almost nothing else. However, HTC seems to be doing nothing more than ticking boxes here by making a One with a bigger screen - let's hope that the One Max 2014, if there is such a thing, gains something more of its own identity.

The HTC One M8s makes an appealing alternative to the HTC One M9 if that's out of your budget. It has a premium design and excellent specs, but it's not different enough to the One M8 for us to recommend an upgrade if you own last year's HTC flagship. If you're considering a high-end HTC smartphone, the One M8 is well-worth investigating and we'll be bringing you our full review soon.

Weighing in on what the HTC One M9 delivers over its predecessor in the HTC One M8, we continue to find the good and bad in it. Starting with the former, the M9 is still a darling gem with its meticulous and premium design – even though there are minor changes in tow with it, which we find to be logical in decision. The hardware, too, receives the customary upgrades in the form of Qualcomm’s latest piece of silicon, more RAM, and a beefier 20-megapixel camera. On the software side, the approach is unequivocally the same with the rest of the phone, as the enhancements in tow make it evolutionary by default.

More of an iterative upgrade than a must-have change. Evolution rather than revolution. The HTC One M9 is an improved version of the already excellent HTC One M8. This will mean both that the cheaper HTC One M8 becomes and even better deal, but also that the HTC One M9 is a good upgrade from its predecessor. HTC's best ever smartphone: which makes it pretty great.

The HTC One M8 is a difficult handset to judge. On the one hand, you have the paradox of a device where the emphasis is very much on the good-looking exterior, and yet it seems too fragile to survive for long without cladding it in a protective case – a move which effectively undermines all that visual flair in one go. But, is that enough to counter all the other positive stuff?

Like the Samsung Galaxy S5, the HTC One M8 has an 'Extreme Power Saving mode' which the firm says will ensure the handset lasts up to 30 hours from 10 percent charge – that's six hours more than the Galaxy S5 in its comparable mode. You're limited to phone calls, texts, emails and the calendar and calculator apps. We tried enabling it with 9 percent battery remaining and there was still charge a full 24 hours later, albeit with very minimal use. As an emergency mode, it's great.

If we take size out of the equation, though, the Note 4 has a clearly pronounced advantage: its brilliant Quad HD display is a beauty to behold with its accuracte colors, while the screen on the M8 does not look bad, but lacks that color fidelity, then, the Snapdragon 805 system chip on the Note 4 is an improvement over the 801 on the M8, and finally, the 16-megapixel optically stabilized camera is among the best smartphone shooters out there, while the M8's UltraPixel camera is not all that capable. Where M8 still comes up is the stylish unibody aluminum body, but hardware-wise it is just not as impressive.

These are two stunningly closely matched handsets. Both are well built and powerful, fast and with great displays. Ultimately your choice will be a subjective one on design and build, with the added spice that the Xperia Z3 probably marginally shades the objective comparison - but you can get the HTC One M8 a little cheaper. Our iPhone 6 vs HTC One M8 comparison shows us that Android phones are now every bit as capable as iPhones, although not in this case sufficiently different or better to make us want to switch. The HTC One M8 enjoys excellence in design and build, is a top performer and has a beautiful display. Storage options are limited, but an expansion slot is a bonus. If you are an iPhone user it is unlikely you will decide to upgrade to the HTC One M8 rather than the iPhone 6, but if you want to move from iOS to Android you could do a lot worse.

HTC has done an excellent job in terms of aesthetics. It's undoubtedly the most premium handset from the Android camp. Along with its pretty looks, the handset is quite a beast when it comes to performance. Be it audio, video, or gaming, the One (M8) does a great job. Like any other phone, this one isn't perfect though. The biggest concern here is its 4 megapixel (ultrapixel) camera that stands no chance against the competition when it comes to image quality. Moreover, display could have been a lot better. Considering all aspects, the HTC One (M8) (Rs 41,000) is your best bet if you're looking for powerful and flaunt-worthy Android device. But, if the camera tops your list of priorities, you should consider the LG G3 (Rs 42,700).

It is never easy to pick a favorite among phones that have so much to offer. One thing's certain, however – whether you pick the iPhone 6 or the HTC One (M8), you will receive your money's worth in exchange. You just need to know what your priorities are when making the choice between these two great models. When it comes to design, the two phones stand in the same league with their meticulously crafted metal bodies. But the iPhone 6 is definitely the more compact one with its slim and lightweight construction. The M8 might be larger and heavier, but its offers a bigger screen with higher resolution and a pair of great front-facing speakers.

With the G3 having won four rounds to the One M8's three, the LG handset is the winner of this versus review. Featuring a superb display, good security features, a lightning-fast camera and being slightly cheaper than the One M8, the G3 is currently one of the best Android smartphones currently available. But with the One M8 offering a more lightly skinned version of Android, better battery life and slightly more consistent performance, there is still plenty to like about the HTC phone. Those unconcerned about the G3's security upgrades would still do well to check it out.

We wish HTC had made more of an effort to keep the bezels in check as the One (M8) is a large phone. Also, you're essentially limited to Instagram photography, but if you want dependable performance, great build and solid battery life, the HTC One (M8) is on the shortlist of phones to consider. The LG G3 meanwhile delivered some disappointments alongside its stunning achievements, but it is essentially the only current Android flagship phone with Optical Image Stabilization. The camera in general is very good, the screen and faux metal body are great if not excellent. If LG would only do something about that battery life.

There are two key sticking points, however. The first is that its biggest rival, the Samsung Galaxy S5, brings even more significant changes, including a new camera autofocus system, water- and dust-resistance and a bigger battery, plus fingerprint and heart-rate sensors. The second is that the Nexus 5, although not as impressive, costs $500 less. The HTC One (M8) is a cracking smartphone, and is packed with useful and clever features, but if you’re on a budget, it isn’t revolutionary enough to justify the premium over a Nexus 5.

All things considered, there's a reason why Sony's been doing so well lately. The Japanese are looking extra solid in the midrange - and that's admittedly an HTC weak point. With that kind of backup from the ranks, Sony's new 6-month release cycle doesn't look like a gamble. Theirs is the standard-setting mini version of a flagship too. OK, that's a good few things HTC can learn. But with the HTC One (M8), it is still perfectly able to prove that building a proper flagship isn't one of them.

It's difficult to be entirely prescriptive without fully testing the LG G3, but this much we can say: both the HTC One M8 and the LG G3 are great handsets, and they will cost around the same. They are fast and well built, they run full (recent) versions of Android, and offer great storage expansion. On the one hand the LG G3 definitely has the better display, but we feel that the HTC One M8 is likely to have the better camera, and is arguably better looking. Ultimately your decision will be personal. For me I'd opt for the HTC One M8 simply because it looks and feels so great, and I care more about build than display quality. Your decision may differ!

The HTC One M8 is a very nice phone. But then both phones are sleek, powerful devices with numerous technological advances on their sides. With its beautiful design, gorgeous display and marathon battery life, the HTC One M8 easily leaves its predecessor, and many of today's leading smartphones, in the dust. Add to that its impressive performance, powerful BoomSound speakers and cool Duo Camera, and it's easy to see why the One M8 is one of the best smartphones money can buy.

It’s tough to pick the best out of the current three flagships as they are far from all-rounders. The Sony Xperia Z2 probably comes closest to being the jack of all trades but its current price is a bit of a put off. Also, the LG G3 launch is just around the corner and if the rumours are true, it might just give everyone a run for their money. The wise thing would be to hold off on you purchase till at least the end of the month. If you still can’t wait however, we’ve got a 3-way battle between the current flagships in the works, so you don’t want to miss that.

The HTC One M8 either bests or matches the HTC One mini 2 in every category we cover here. However, it also costs twice the price. The HTC One mini 2 will be a good deal at around £300, and it may be better-tuned to those with smaller hands. But there's little in the One mini 2's spec that makes it stand out against 2013 flagships, and for those really looking to save some cash on an Android smartphone the best deal will most likely come from the £149 2014 Motorola Moto G.

On paper alone, the Sony Xperia Z2 appears to lead the pack. With an extra gig of RAM over the competition, a promising stills- and video camera that lets you display 4K footage on your 4K TV, one-touch sharing, listening, mirroring and backup via NFC, a gorgeous screen, excellent dust- and waterproofing credentials and the largest-capacity battery prior to the existence of any power-saving mode, Sony is surely on to a winner with the Xperia Z2. The Samsung Galaxy S5's fingerprint scanner and heart-rate monitor also impress, as does the HTC One M8's Duo Camera, but none is on our list of priorities.

Like the Galaxy S5 and Xperia Z2, the new HTC One M8 isn't a big leap compared to the previous model. WHat HTC has done is taken a great phone and made it better. The M8 looks and feels gorgeous and with important upgrades including a microSD card slot and an innovative camera. This is a very desirable smartphone.

HTC has pulled off a blinder with the HTC One. It’s a gorgeous phone with a beautiful screen, and we think it's a more desirable handset than the Sony Xperia Z. Given you can move BlinkFeed out of view, the HTC One should appeal to everyone. It will be especially tempting to those who crave the low-light capabilities of its camera. Its metal chassis is also a big selling point - nothing else out there, bar the newer and more expensive One (m8), can match the One's build quality. If you want a seriously classy phone but can't stretch to the One (m8), the original One could still be worth your time.

The Sprint Harman/Kardon Edition version of HTC One M8 is every bit as awesome as its predecessor and more. We're fans of the enhanced BlinkFeed, as well as the innovative Duo Camera. The metal design and large screen continue to captivate, and the Harman/Kardon-enhanced BoomSound speakers trounce the competition.

All things considered, the HTC One is a jewel, and it's well worth the asking price if you’re in the market for a new Android device. It’s worth mentioning that Android purists can purchase a Google Play edition of this device, with a pure version of Kit Kat that’s free of HTC’s software add-ons and free of carrier bloat, and of course, free to be used on international networks without pleading with your carrier for an unlock code.

The HTC One (M8) is not a radical departure from last year's HTC One. It's a solid update, but isn't new or exciting, and definitely isn't worth upgrading to if you currently use any of last year's premium phones. The M8's major competition will come from Sony's Xperia Z2 and Samsung's Galaxy S5, both of which offer similar or better specifications. The M8 will have to rely on its premium build quality and camera gimmicks to appeal to buyers, and perhaps a price cut sometime mid-lifecycle. Meanwhile, Samsung and Sony are experimenting with (and making big noises about) waterproof bodies, heart rate sensors, 4K video recording, fingerprint readers, smart accessories, and much more. This is exactly the strategy that led HTC to where it is right now, and it looks like history might well repeat itself.

There are two great Android smartphones out right now: the HTC One (M8) and the Samsung Galaxy S5. The One (M8) easily outclasses the GS5 on style and execution—it's simply the better built and better-looking of the two. The GS5 wins out on function thanks to its superior camera, Wi-Fi performance, and display. The HTC One M8 is certainly one of the more powerful smart phones that I have come across. The Samsung Galaxy S5 gave it a run for the money, but the HTC One M8 ultimately came out on top today. There are a couple of ways that you can purchase the HTC One M8, the M8 can be purchased on a contract for only $199.99. This is based on a two year contract which prevents you from upgrading very soon. If you’re looking to upgrade sooner than with the 2-year contract you can jump on the AT&T next program. The AT&T next program tacks on a monthly installment payment to your bill. The AT&T next has a pair of options available for the HTC One M8, the Next 12 or Next 18. The Next 12 allows you to upgrade in 12 months with an installment payment of $32.00, the Next 18 is an 18 month upgrade cycle with an installment of $24.62. The final option for you is to buy the HTC One M8 outright, this will hit the pocket book for $639.99. Doing this means that you can upgrade anytime you want to without any restrictions.

The HTC One (M8) Google Play Edition is arguably the best version available, and at the very least, the most flexible. It's unencumbered by any carrier bloat or OS update delays, and thanks to HTC's decision to move many of its features to the Google Play app store, you still have the option to pick and choose features you do happen to like. You also don't lose useful features like Motion Launch and can still access the interesting depth effects of the Duo Cam. Overall image quality seems to take a hit, but it's the exact same hardware, and Google has already proven its commitment to update camera performance with timely updates. All told, the One (M8) GPE is an excellent choice for the design conscious Android purists out there, but the $350 Nexus 5 hangs on to our Editors' Choice award thanks to its unbeatable value.

HTC didn’t need to reinvent the smartphone with the all new HTC One. The handset that preceded it established the company as the maker of high-end, premium Android devices, so all that was needed was to build on this solid base. And that’s exactly what HTC did in creating the One M8; this is a smartphone filled with improvements. The HTC One M8 is a truly fantastic smartphone, and its few shortcomings can easily be overlooked in favor of a solid feature set in a premium body. Well done to HTC for once again showing what its engineers can do.

All in all, I found the HTC One to be an excellent phone all-around. By improving all aspects of the previous handset, HTC has gotten to a point where it got just about everything right (design, responsiveness, camera interface, typography…), and the real question is whether or not you like the design of the phone and if you are OK with the low-resolution of the otherwise excellent 4 Megapixel camera. If that’s the case, I would give a 9/10 review rating. If you need photos for non-web usage, then I would drop the rating to 8/10.

HTC made my job incredibly easy with the HTC One M8. In terms of beauty, quality, and feel, there aren't many devices worthy of comparison to the One M8. I went looking for major gripes to have about the phone, but struggled to come up with any aside from the camera and aforementioned inconsistencies across carrier models. It wasn't a struggle to find faults with the HTC, but it was difficult to find faults big enough to make me not love the device. My appreciation for the 2013 HTC One has been well-documented on this site, so it shouldn't surprise anyone to learn that my new favorite phone is the follow-up that made that device more appealing. The HTC One M8 is the best Android phone at the time that this review is published. It might have that distinction for only a few days considering what's on the horizon, but the One M8 is a phone unlike any other.

HTC has carefully crafted a fine smartphone for 2014. By all means, the One (M8) is a flagship that will be in the same category as the Galaxy S5 and every other top tier device introduced throughout the rest of the year. The premium feel and build likely won’t be matched by anyone, just like with last year’s One (M7). The display is gorgeous, the design is luxurious, and the overall combination of software with hardware is something HTC should be proud of.

The HTC One (M8) is an eminently desirable smartphone, and not just for metal fetishists – it’s very fast and (with the new microSD support) more flexible than before. Plus innovations like the Dots case add distinctive flair. My main bugbears were the wasted frontal real estate and the relatively disappointing camera, but the first might have been unavoidable from a technical standpoint and the second is subjective since it depends on what sort of things you want to snap and what you’ll do with the JPGs afterwards. The HTC One range just got extended in style, but owners of the original should probably sit tight on the 2013 model and save their pennies.

The new One has a huge list of impressive qualities: The phone is beautifully constructed, with an all-metal body that gives it a distinctly premium look and feel. It has a gorgeous display and outstanding speakers. The device provides great performance, commendable battery life and a polished and cohesive software experience. Its unique dual-camera setup opens the door to some interesting photo-editing opportunities, too, and HTC's "UltraPixel" technology shines when it comes to capturing photos in low-light conditions.

If the new HTC One would have adopted some of the Moto X’s stylings—for those of us not keen on the aluminum finishes—and always-on processing capabilities, it’s likely this would have been one of our highest rated Android handsets. That doesn’t mean that the One isn’t a total package. It comes standard with a totally capable camera that can take low-light photos, a premium build, amplified volume to aid in shower singing, an efficient battery life, and a simplistic Android overlay that isn’t bogged down with bloatware.

HTC has clearly worked very hard on the One: the problem it has is that it's starting in the same place as all its rivals. With the latest chips from Qualcomm and latest versions of Android from Google, it's very hard to differentiate. There are some nice accessories like a case which shows the time through holes when you tap on the phone, and the camera is clever, but ultimately its greatest strength is the design and that's never turned Alfa Romeo into a BMW beater.

Is the HTC One m8 good enough to topple the iPhone 5s? The remarkable media hype the smartphone has received in the past couple of days has been astonishing, but we're not convinced. The best part of the entire HTC One M8 experience, for me, is the knowledge that the company is going to be active in making sure the phone continues to improve and evolve. The camera app, Blinkfeed, and several other critical parts on the HTC One M8 are all going to be updated through the Google Play Store, which means HTC can add features and fix bugs on the fly instead of waiting for a carrier update.

Wrapping things up, the HTC One M8 improves upon almost all areas over the original HTC One. The updated design is simply gorgeous and new hardware makes the phone fly when it comes to launching and moving between applications. The larger screen and larger battery are also noticeable and so is the audio from Boom Sound speakers compared to the older HTC One. But even with all these tweaks over the original, there isn’t anything substantially new for me to recommend a current owner of the HTC One to go out and buy the new HTC One M8. Your current HTC One is still an excellent product and you can find comfort in the fact that HTC will continue selling the older model as well as issue an update to bring many of the software related features to your phone.

Having thoroughly tested the HTC One M8, we have to say it is a very good smartphone. Featuring a wonderfully crafted yet robust metal design, powerful Snapdragon 801 processor and number of key software additions that aid, rather than detract from, Android 4.4.2 KitKat's core offering, the One M8 is currently one of the best smartphones available. Put simply, the HTC One (M8) is every bit as enjoyable to use as its name is difficult to pronounce. It’s beautifully built, beyond user friendly, as cutting edge as you can get right now and packs clever camera tech we think is going to become the norm in mobiles very soon. It says a lot about the work HTC’s pulled off here when the only real complaint we can level at its new flagship is that it’s a little bit too long.

As we noted when we originally reviewed the Nexus 5, it has the specifications to rival flagship Android phones, but at a much lower price. For a shade under £300, you get a great smartphone with only a few compromises. One is the plastic body, another is the lack of expandable storage. The HTC One M8 may have an aluminium shell (and a choice of three colours) and feel much more like a premium phone, but you'll also pay for the privilege: £550 if you buy it outright with no contract.

HTC could've played it safe with the new One. Followed the crowd; put in a fast chip and a big display, and taken the easy route. Whether that would've actually done the firm any good is a question we can't - and needn't - answer, since instead the One M8 tries to push the boundaries of what we've come to expect from a smartphone. What remains is the really difficult stuff. Competing with the monstrous advertising budgets of Samsung and Apple. Delivering the sort of timely software changes the One M8 opens the door to. Convincing would-be users that Android isn't synonymous with Galaxy. That's a journey that will take time, but the 2014 One M8 is an excellent place to start.

Chucking more of everything at your flagship phone seems an all-too easy way to get yourself to the top, but in HTC’s defence it’s not nearly as simple as it sounds. There’s a careful balancing act to be achieved. A bigger screen requires more power, more power requires more battery, and all of these things require more room – hard to find without messing up a design thought by many to be the most stylish ever to grace an Android handset. But will they actually perform better, and will they be as nice to hold and to live with? That's far less certain - but it won’t be long before we find out. Until then, enjoy your time at the top, HTC.

The older HTC One will continue to be sold be the time-being (presumably at a reduced price), though it will eventually be phased out. But there’s no doubt that the HTC One M8 is a fantastic improvement on what was already our Phone of the Year in 2013. There was potential for the M8 to be the HTC’s difficult second phone, but HTC has done a fantastic job identifying the small improvements that could be made on the HTC One and implementing those. Tiny changes like moving the headphone jack, improving the build quality are all very welcome, and sit nicely alongside the big improvements to the screen, and power and photography features.

The HTC One (M8) is a brilliant smartphone with very few flaws. Its main strength is design, but I don't think that's a negative thing as many brands still seem keen to race on specs rather than attracting users when they wander into a shop to a buy something for two years (at a rather high price). If the HTC One (M8) isn't the smartphone of 2014, I'm very, very excited to see what the competition will come up with as this handset strikes the perfect blend of design, performance and innovation without really compromising in any area.

The HTC One M8 is the phone equivalent of the tricky second album. The HTC One was such a critical hit that it’s not going to be easy to top. Finally, a note about the case. You can buy a $50 “dot case” with the phone. The front side is covered with holes, and the phone senses when it is closed. Tapping the phone when the case is closed reveals the current time and weather in a large, retro-pixel, format through the case. It’s pretty cool. But when you open the case, it doesn’t fold completely back on itself. That makes it awkward in a way I could forgive on a $10 or $20 case. But at $50, that shouldn’t be happening.

HTC has also included a 2600mAh battery with the One (M8) and thrown in a 'Extreme Power Saving Mode' that basically turns into a touchscreen feature phone, as users only have access to calls, messaging, calendar data and calculator app. There are no notifications, data connectivity, or access to any other apps. This 'extreme' mode is designed for situations when you expect to be away from a power source for long durations (say when you go camping) or when you are expecting an important call, only to realise you are on the road and almost out of battery. We can see this coming in handy, if it extends the battery life as advertised.

Is the HTC One m8 good enough to topple the iPhone 5s? The remarkable media hype the smartphone has received in the past couple of days has been astonishing, but we're not convinced. It's a nice phone - both phones are sleek, powerful devices with numerous technological advances on their sides - but we'd want more to persuade us to leave behind the comforts of iOS.

The HTC One M8 is every bit as awesome as its predecessor and more. The metal design and larger screen are absolutely gorgeous, and the BoomSound speakers trounce the competition. The new Duo Camera adds some fun to the photo-taking experience, even if the image quality still trails the iPhone 5s.

The older HTC One will continue to be sold be the time-being (presumably at a reduced price), though it will eventually be phased out. But there’s no doubt that the HTC One M8 is a fantastic improvement on what was already our Phone of the Year in 2013. In short, the HTC One M8 does everything you could possibly ask of a high-end smartphone, and does it incredibly well. We’ll be updating this review with more opinions over the next few days, but for the moment, this is undoubtedly a top quality phone and we can’t imagine finding anything that’s likely to knock a star off.

While the Galaxy S5 and iPhone both won three rounds - although one of the Samsung handsets was technically a tie with the One M8 - for us at V3 the Apple handset is the overall winner. Even though the Galaxy S5 can theoretically feature more storage, has a longer battery life and better camera, the iPhone 6 countermands this for enterprise customers by offering improved security and better assurance that it will be able to receive future software updates.

The Galaxy Alpha marks a new beginning for Samsung, which HTC may view as trespassing on their premium territory. Samsung may have found a weakness - HTC have a proper full-size flagship but their compact offering feels like a midranger at times. The Samsung Galaxy Alpha has more devices to worry about, the high-profile targets being the Apple iPhone 6 and the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. The HTC One mini 2 is cheaper than all three and the iPhone is the only one matching its metal unibody.

t's a close call here with two very similarly kitted out smartphones. However, the HTC One mini 2 pips it for us with its superior design, cheaper price tag and better software. We'd understand if you wanted to spend the extra for the Galaxy S5 mini's fingerprint scanner, heart rate monitor and IR blaster, though.

While the name isn’t quite accurate, the HTC’s One Mini 2 gets close to offering a miniature version of HTC’s One. If you love the look and feel of HTC’s 5 inch One but the size doesn’t quite match up, we’d look at the One Mini 2. If that extra half an inch doesn’t matter much, the features and build differences make the HTC One M8 a better deal altogether, but if 5 inches is a deal breaker, this is one phone you’ll want to check out.

Considering it almost at the end of its year as Apple's number one, the iPhone 5s still stacks up extremely well against a mid-ranged Android handset. Performance is a win for the iPhone, as is the camera. The displays are a choice between big for viewing pleasure, and small for handling ease. The HTC is more robust, the iPhone more beautiful. And storage options favour the HTC, without it being an entirely clear cut choice. If Apple does as some suggest keep the iPhone 5s as a slightly cheaper option, it will not be a bad deal for new smartphone buyers.

It follows on from the original HTC One mini and is a smaller, cheaper and cutdown version of the M8. As such, you can pick it up for a mid-range price of around £350 on a SIM-free basis. The HTC One mini 2 looks and feels like the flagship HTC One M8. It's smaller in size and lighter but slightly thicker.

The HTC One mini 2 is one of the better examples of a mid-ranged version of a flagship smartphone. It has the same premium feel as the M8 with only a few downgrades - namely a lower res screen and no Duo Camera or IR blaster. The camera is a little disappointing but good performance and software balance things out.

The One mini 2 is as confusing a device as its name. With some components dumbed down significantly from the One M8 (processor, RAM, screen, battery) and others arguably raised significantly (camera), this is a device that needs to be assessed on its own terms rather than in relation to its ancestors. The paradox is that in many ways, as a day to day phone, I enjoyed using the HTC One mini 2 more than its larger sisters – the hand-friendly size and shape, the overall package, and yes, the camera, impressed me. It remains to be seen how many of the target market will look past the confusing name, pick the device up, fall in love and end up agreeing with me.

HTC has crafted another beautiful handset in the One mini 2, but we can't help but wonder if it's speedy enough. It's armed with the same processor as Motorola's budget Moto G, but with a much heftier £360 price tag. You do get the solid M8 build though, as well as Boomsound speakers and a camera than sometimes outdoes the original M8's. There are compromises, but its solid chassis makes for an alluring handset that's hard to pass up.

The HTC One M8 either bests or matches the HTC One mini 2 in every category we cover here. And the difference in price isn't enough to make it a good deal in comparison. For those really looking to save some cash on an Android smartphone the best deal will most likely come from the £149 2014 Motorola Moto G.

We’re still confirming the One Mini 2’s retail price, but we expect it'll be considerably cheaper than other Android flagships. Despite this, it offers one of the most premium examples of smartphone build quality around - a fantastic achievement on HTC's part. Its BoomSound speakers are seriously impressive, Sense 6.0 is as pretty as ever, and its camera - while not the best we've seen overall - is more than capable, and even outshines the flagship One (M8) in specific scenarios.

The HTC One Mini 2 is a solid improvement on what was already one of the best smaller-sized handsets out there. The build quality is fantastic and it actually feels and looks better than the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact while the addition of a microSD card slot is extremely welcome. It’s not a revolution in how you can cram power into a smaller package, instead it’s a leaner creation, focusing on doing the small things well while making it through to the end of the day.

This is a difficult one. Just like its larger, more expensive compatriot the One M8, the One Mini 2 is a great-looking phone. It has a great screen, too, a better camera and improved battery life compared to the One Mini, and better than average speakers. But it's hard to escape the feeling it's a little pricey considering the alternatives available.

HTC's One mini 2 is a fantastic-looking phone with much of the One M8's appeal. Beneath the brushed-aluminum body is capable internal hardware, even if it's not a huge improvement over last year's One mini. The HTC One mini 2 doesn’t knock it out the park, then, but neither does it disappoint in the same way that the One mini of last year did. It’s easy to see how a new smartphone buyer, lured into a store by the One M8 but turned off by the price, might look at the smaller device and consider it a saving worth making. Similarly, those who want a more hand-friendly form factor have fewer than the usual compromises to stomach. It’s certainly a much-needed phone in HTC’s range, though only time will tell whether it’s sufficiently affordable to fill in the gaping midrange gap.

The HTC One Mini 2 is certainly a good looking phone, and is far more desirable than any other mid-range handset, but when its underlying hardware is essentially the same as a Motorola Moto G, it feels overpriced. The One Mini 2’s camera is a definite step up from most lower-end phones, but ultimately the One Mini 2 is a pale imitation of the original One M8. The new HTC One Mini 2 is a solid compact Android smartphone. While it doesn't have the high end specifications of the M8, it is not designed to be the flagship device. It holds its own and I honestly had lots of trouble developing a cons list for a device of this class and target audience. While the price may be a bit on the higher end for a compact version of the M8, it is still quite a bit less expensive than the One M8 and other flagship products. The One Mini 2 is for the buyer who wants a smaller phone and in that regard I think it meets its goal.

I like the idea of a smaller HTC One M8, one which is more manageable in the hand and easier to slide into a pocket. With the HTC One Mini 2 the Taiwanese firm has manage to keep the beautiful stylings, but on the inside it feels like attention to detail waned a little, with a sub-par processor and a battery which doesn't do the phone justice. That said, compare it to its size rivals - the iPhone 5S and 5C, Xperia Z1 Compact and Ascend P7 - and the One Mini 2 is still a very capable handset at a reasonable price point.

Like last year, HTC released a smaller cousin of their flagship device. The new HTC One Mini 2 should be called the M8 Mini and it is great to see this device perform well in a small form factor. The new HTC One Mini 2 is a solid compact Android smartphone. While it doesn't have the high end specifications of the M8, it is not designed to be the flagship device. It holds its own and I honestly had lots of trouble developing a cons list for a device of this class and target audience.

The HTC One (M8) dethroned the LG G2 as Stuff’s favourite phone in the world, and it’s successfully fended off attacks from the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2. And now it’s got a smaller sibling – the HTC One Mini 2.

The HTC One Mini 2 isn't a straight switch to a smaller format - there's a slight drop in specs but from what we've seen the changes are impressivly balanced with the Mini 2 feeling every bit as fast as the M8. Of course the big question will be whether the Mini 2 can still offer everyday performance, a flagship-quality camera experience and a battery life that can compete with its rivals - stay tuned for our full review...

The HTC One Mini 2 is a beautifully designed smartphone with a reasonable feature set providing a pleasing advance on its predecessor. Altogether it creates a package which rivals the equally pocketable iPhone 5S in terms of premium appeal and raw power. If you're looking for the best of HTC the One Mini 2 comes close, but you'll want to plump for its fully fledged bigger brother the One M8 for the true experience.

Műanyag öltönyben. Nem lehet eléggé hangsúlyozni, mennyire közkedvelt lett a One M8 megjelenésekor. Most elkészült a prémium verzió műanyag változata, melynél szintén odafigyeltek a kamera minőségére. Kérdés, hogy ennyi vajon elég-e nimbusz fényesen tartásához?

The HTC One (E8) offer great user experience. Although devoid of fancy features, its 13 megapixel camera produces better results compared to the flagship One (M8). In terms of media performance, including audio, video, and gaming, the phone's performance is excellent. However, it's display could have been better. Generally, HTC is very good with aesthetics, but the One (E8) doesn't come across a premium device. Therefore, if you are fine with a plasticky phone, why not go with the LG G2 that offers a vibrant screen and great camera for Rs 29,000?

The use of plastic in a phone's design can get overblown—there are right and wrong ways to use the material, but companies like Motorola, Apple, and Nokia have shown that plastic doesn't have to mean cheap. HTC's design heritage shines through with the One E8, which harkens back to the original One X, another beautifully designed plastic phone. It's a compromise, no doubt, compared with the premium feel of the M8, but nearly every other feature that made that phone great remains here, just at a discounted price. The E8 is the One for pragmatists, and thus earns our Editors' Choice award.

But the M8 this isn't, and the plastic design does make a difference. In the world of smartphones that design difference might be diminished by using a cover, but for those who don't, what the E8 lacks is that premium feel you get every time you touch your phone. The E8 might leave you wanting more: indeed it might leave you wanting the M8 instead.

HTC seems to have hit another home run with the One (E8). If you do not mind the polycarbonate outer casing (we don't), it is a cheaper and much more sensible buy than its elder brother at Rs. 33,990. There are options such as the Nexus 5 (Review | Pictures), iPhone 5C and the LG G2 (Review) which are also available - but keep in mind that all of them run year-old specs. If you want the latest and greatest specs the One (E8) is definitely a great buy at this price. That is unless you want to buy two Xiaomi Mi 3 (Review | Pictures) phones.

The HTC One E8 is a phone that I'm happy to carry around and use - as long as I don't remember than the One M8 exists. It's not a bad phone for the cash by a long way, especially if you're a fan of top specs, but without the metal body and other HTC headliners, it feels like the One E8 is missing something - and the price reduction isn't enough to really quantify the loss of soul that the M8 has in spades.

Aside from a sexy metal shell, the E8 lacks something intangible. The metal sets the One apart from other Android handsets. Plastic brings it back down to earth. Like Apple’s iPhone offerings, HTC's duopoly here is meant to diversify the portfolio and price points.

The HTC One series has at least one feature it can hang its hat on - premium design. This became absolutely critical with the M8, as the scorching hot flagship was outclassed by its competitors in many other areas - performance and camera being the most obvious. There goes the One (E8) - one that has to make do with its seemingly biggest advantage taken away, the aluminum unibody and its slick finish and chamfered edges replaced by polycarbonate. Now, isn't that a recipe for disaster? Especially for a company that's been struggling to regain lost market share, you'd think that moving away from your strongest suit would be a mistake. The HTC One (E8), however, has proven to be anything but.

Even as large phones and phablets pop up everywhere, some people still want a phone they can easily use with one hand. The HTC One Remix is truly the little brother of HTC's M8--it's smaller and less powerful, but still pretty awesome. It gets the job done in a stylish package, and for a free phone, that's a big achievement. I also like the quality dual speakers, BlinkFeed app and 13-MP camera.

What’s also nice about the One Remix is that, while it’s not an exact copy of its flagship sibling, it’s loaded with premium features like a 13-megapixel camera, fashionable chassis, superior front-facing speakers, and a crisp display. That’s quite a leg up over the Moto G, which is currently the world’s favorite mid-range device. The One Remix's higher cost will be its main drawback in the long run, however. It’s $450 off-contract, compared to the Moto G’s sub-$200 price tag, but all those extra features it's bundled might be worth the splurge after all.

There are two ways to look at the HTC One Remix compared to the One (M8): It's either a compromised miniaturization or an affordable alternative with a premium look and feel. I lean towards the latter, even though I would like to see more manufacturers make flagship-level devices for normal-sized hands. With the HTC One Remix, you're getting premium looks in a manageable size for a reasonable price. It's superior to the $25 Galaxy S4 Mini and free LG Lucid 3 in nearly every way. A good alternative for smaller device lovers is the Motorola Moto X$0.01 at Amazon, which Verizon is offering for free at the time of this writing.

As ever, the trade-off of buying a Windows Phone comes with the limited software selection, putting it a distant third behind iOS and Android in that respect. But if that's not a huge concern and you want a device that's distinctive in both hardware and software design, the HTC One (M8) for Windows delivers just that.

If you are looking for a phone running Microsoft's mobile OS, the HTC One M8 for Windows is the phone to buy. And even if your preferences stray toward other operating systems, the One M8 still deserves some serious consideration (there's an Android version, too). Windows Phone fans who aren't on Verizon may want to consider the Nokia Lumia Icon 1520 and its giant 6-inch screen, or the affordable $65 Lumia 635, but both are equipped with last-gen components and lack the combination of speedy performance and large feature set of the One M8. At $99, the One M8 for Windows costs less than the iPhone 6 while offering a larger 5-inch screen, more than 10 hours of battery life and competition-crushing BoomSound speakers. Windows Phone users rejoice, this is the phone you have been waiting for.

Overall if you're not looking to go with a Lumia then the HTC One (M8) for Windows isn't just a solid choice, it's the best designed Windows Phone 8.1 device we've seen. It's a welcome addition to Windows Phone, which is a platform growing stronger all the time. The only problem is you can't yet buy it in the UK. Here's hoping that changes.

HTC One (M8) has proven to be as capable as its Android counterpart and that's no surprise. But it's time to address the million dollar question now. The big elephant in the room we have been avoiding throughout this entire review. Is it possible to install Android OS on HTC One (M8)? The short answer is no. Not at this moment at least. HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M8) for Windows are identical phones with the same hardware and same bootloaders. If your bootloader is unlocked, theoretically you can install any ROM with any OS. But someone had to port it first and there is no such project underway.

The HTC One M8 for Windows is a wonderful smartphone that should appeal greatly to the Windows Phone crowd. However, currently in the US, the Nokia Lumia Icon is the better all-round phone, and camera lovers should look at it instead. And when (or rather if) the new M8 comes over to the UK, it will have to butt heads against the similarly excellent Lumia 930 which scooped one of our Best Buy awards.

There can be no doubt: HTC knows how to make a high-quality smartphone. It’s not just how well they command Android, either. Now we can call the HTC Windows Phone 8X a bit of a mis-step without feeling like HTC didn’t have another trick up their sleeve. Now, unhindered by the hardware requirements of old, HTC succeeds in creating one of the finest Windows Phone devices to date.

Still, the idealist in me hopes that there’s more to come from HTC's Windows Phone vision. Microsoft recently loosened its grip on Windows Phone hardware, a policy decision that was instrumental in allowing the HTC One (M8) to come to market. That breath of fresh air makes me yearn for something more. Cloning my existing Windows Phone apps and settings onto new hardware is appealing. But I’d like to see HTC interpret Windows Phone with its Sense aesthetic, too.

Whether it runs Windows or Android, the $99 HTC One M8 is one of the best smartphones on the market. The company continues to set itself apart from the competition with its beautiful design, vibrant display and excellent audio quality. Throw in the great performance and impressively long battery life, and the One M8 for Windows is a match for any flagship phone on the market.

But despite my camera hangups, the Windows Phone version of the HTC One is undoubtedly a good phone. It’s available on either Verizon or AT&T’s 4G LTE networks, and unless you’re doing seriously intense, non-stop activity on the phone, you can easily get a day or more’s battery life out of the handset. If you mostly use your handset for emails, internetting, social media, and watching video, you might enjoy this handset as much or even more than its Android counterpart.

If you’re the kind of person who values personality over utility, someone willing to deal with a few rough edges in exchange for a more colorful experience, Windows Phone is a better fit than ever before. And with its beautiful fit and finish and HTC’s custom software additions, the One M8 is possibly the platform’s greatest showcase. In short, this is one of the finest Windows Phones ever created. If it’s a Microsoft smartphone you’re looking for, and you have no need for a PureView camera, you can’t do better than the HTC One M8 for Windows.

So, do you want this phone? If you're not a fan of Windows Phone, the HTC One (M8) won't convince you to become one. Window Phone still suffers from the well-documented app gap and you won't be able to get some popular apps such as Instagram, Google Maps, YouTube and others. But if you are a Windows Phone user looking for a new phone, this is clearly the one to get. With its high-end hardware, the Windows Phone 8.1 Update and the introductory $100 price with a two-year-contract deal at Verizon, you won't find a better value in a Windows Phone device today.

Getting down to business, there’s no arguing that HTC is once again in the game of making Windows Phone smartphones. After a lengthy wait since its last offering, we’re relieved to see that they’re able to deliver a polished, high-end phone that’s competitive in the space. However, there’s still a part of us that wishes for something original – rather than just taking the original flagship, and swapping out the software for Windows Phone 8.1. You can say that it’s a lazy approach, but nevertheless, it’s just nice to see them in the game again.

The HTC One (M8 Eye) is available for a shade under Rs. 35,000, which is a good Rs. 5,000 less than its predecessor. The main differentiating factor is its camera, and after using it extensively we are convinced that it performs equally well, if not better than the UltraPixel camera, at least in normal light conditions. But note that this new model doesn't have infrared, which might or might not be a big deal-breaker for users.

The HTC One M8 Eye doesn't offer anything new apart from the new 13MP dual-lens camera. However it still comes with the elegant metal body, a great touchscreen display and a powerful performance package. The updated camera doesn't impress as the overall quality is the same apart from the resolution. A worthy update? Nope. However, this was probably what HTC should have launched as the original One M8.

Microevolution. HTC only changed a few things about the tried-and-true look of their top-of-the-line One M9. Instead they made significant improvements to the cameras and installed a modern Snapdragon 810 into the smartphone. In a rush of bold self-confidence, they also raised the recommended retail price.
Nice soundbox. HTC tries to keep old strengths with the One M9 and does not really change the design of its flagship smartphone. The speakers still create a very good sound, but the latest version once again reveals problems in respect of the reworked camera. The battery runtimes could be longer as well.

We don’t mind that HTC has only lightly changed the casing of the One M9 - it is a strength of the One series after all. What’s more unforgivable is that the camera and battery life are so mediocre. The display is more vibrant, with brighter colors, and of course, a higher resolution. The design is much sleeker, and the software experience has been streamlined even further. The fingerprint scanner is a nice addition and works remarkably well, and HTC finally got things right on the camera side of things. Unless dual-front facing speakers are an absolute must have, the HTC 10 is definitely the better the choice between the two, and even then, the new speaker arrangement on the HTC 10 provides excellent audio.

Aside from the removal of the IR blaster and front stereo speakers, the HTC 10 is a better phone all round. It gets some significant upgrades and is arguably the phone HTC should have made last year. We've yet to complete our full review of the HTC 10 but even at this early stage, there's no doubt that the 10 is better than the One M9. Is it the best Android phone though? That's a whole different question: there's some tough competition for the HTC 10 right now.

HTC has launched some of the prettiest Android phones, but Samsung has turned things around with its slender all metal and glass, Quad HD Samsung Galaxy S6. The HTC One M9 is a genuinely desirable smartphone with the best design and build available in Android land, even with Samsung upping the ante. It's good to see the powerful Snapdragon 810 and more memory, however, some key hardware remains the same meaning M8 users are unlikely to be tempted to upgrade – and the old model is now an attractive buy at around £350. I missed Mobile World Congress this year so this was the first time I got hands on the M9. Overall I was impressed but wasn’t quite blown away for what is a flagship phone. It is hard to improve on the already great hardware HTC had on the M7 and M8, but to me it felt like something was lacking here. The M9 just isn’t unique enough to command the current premium. But then a) many people will be getting this on contract, in which case the costs are somewhat obscured, and b) HTC has hedged its bets by producing that aforementioned ‘One M8s’, which is, in many ways, a very similar device, yet priced more realistically, so maybe it’s a case of a design for every wallet?

Samsung and HTC are inseparably entangled with Android and the platform proved a major driving force for the rise in fortunes for the two companies. A lot of that was on the back of flagships - despite being the priciest gadgets in the lineup, Galaxy S and One flagships have drawn massive amounts of interest that subsequently translated into sales.

In a perfect world, my ideal Android device would consist of HTC’s hardware, Samsung’s camera and Google’s stock Android OS. But alas, such a thing does not exist. So where does that leave us? Like the others before it, the HTC One M9 is a solid Android device, and it’s still one of the best-designed phones, regardless of operating system. But the minor changes and sub-par camera make it hard to recommend as an upgrade to the One M8 and the new Galaxy S6 devices.

The One M9 is a good phone, but it’s only that: good. From both a hardware and software standpoint, this feels like one of the best phones of 2014, not a contender for the best phone of 2015. You wouldn’t be bad off buying one, but you wouldn’t really better off than buying last year’s model. That's painfully faint praise for a flagship phone.

Is the HTC One M9 iterative? Yes. Does it lack the flash of a curved display or fingerprint sensor or other gimmicks found in competing Android flagships? Yes. Is that necessarily a bad thing? The One M9 puts design above all else, and in that respect it could still be crowned the best on the market. With strong hardware and improved software, the One M9 makes a case for the best overall Android device, as well.

Smartphone cameras are a big deal for all users. It's the camera you always have with you. A high-end flagship phone doesn't have to have a ton of new gimmicky features, but it does need to take photos and videos that look great, in a wide variety of conditions, with minimal effort. The One M9 camera would have been considered impressive a couple of years ago, but in 2015, it just doesn't compare with other flagship phones.

The HTC One M9 is a phone that takes the design heritage, DNA and all the other good bits of last year’s phone and, well, does them again. It’s again shown the rest of the competition how to make a premium smartphone, and if it can iron out some of the wrinkles around battery and speed, it’s another great phone – but the competition is catching up quickly.

As with every One flagship, HTC has created a good phone with the M9, it offers a balanced overall experience and plays to its strengths in design, battery longevity and usability, but good might not quite be enough for those laying down the notable amounts of cash such handsets demand, even on a two year plan. We like the HTC One M9 a lot, we just haven’t fallen in love with it this time around.

The One M9 is a striking and attractive design, and I’m glad it hasn’t changed it substantially. But it’s a brutally competitive market and HTC can’t count on Apple and Samsung’s complacency any more: both leaders have raised their game. Hopefully HTC can improve the image processing, pronto, and maybe even lose its tacky widget, so it can stay in the game for another swing at the market.

The HTC One M9 may not feel like the most original or innovative of smartphones, but it does manage to tick all the important boxes. An elegant metal design, top-end octa-core processor and upgraded rear camera, plus the business benefits of Android 5.0 Lollipop, make the One M9 a solid choice for any business buyer.

What we are sure of is that the HTC One M9 is stylish yet safe. It’s still an excellent phone, and there is a lot to admire about what HTC has made here, but if you’re looking at the new handset and expecting an evolution, a revolution, and more of that panache HTC has brought for the past few years, you’ll get some of it, but not likely all. For the first shot in the 2015 smartphone race, there’s certainly a lot to like here, and customers will likely love just how well made and finely tuned the One M9 is, but there’s more to come, and we think HTC could have done a little to make it a little more remarkable, rather than being merely memorable.

The One M9 holds HTC's course. The One M8 was already the best-looking Android phone on the market, with terrific front-facing speakers, attractive themes, and an unfortunate camera. The M9, at least the one I'm looking at right now, appears to be more of the same.

Pricing, though, favors the HTC One M9 whatever route you decide to go with – whether it’s with a contract or buying outright. Here in the US, the M9 will more than likely require you to dish out $200 with a 2-year contract, which is the usual price attached to most flagships. As for the Note 4, however, you’ll pay more at $300. Despite the $100 difference in price, it’s something we’d happily pay for because the Note 4 is such an incredible smartphone packed with solid performances and rich features.

With the M9, it seems as though HTC heard the feedback from HTC One M8 owners and addressed all the concerns. The HTC One M9 has a good grip, the camera has been upgraded to take great pictures and the battery life should easily last a day. In short, HTC has made an excellent phone even better.

Latest Snapdragon, latest Android and Sense, Dolby Surround added to HTC Boomsound, very good screen quality. With a proper camera finally on the list, the HTC One M9 is the all-round flagship smartphone the company should have had a while ago. The beautiful aluminum unibody looks as good as ever though and, if nothing else, the two-color design adds an extra bit of flair.

The HTC One M9 is the third iteration of the HTC One, coming from strong stock: we loved the M7 and the M8, with both devices delivering premium build and a metal body that was unmatched. However, while the HTC One M9 offers plenty to love, it doesn't really move forward. As a flagship device it's very well put together, and sticking to a 5-inch display makes it one of the smaller and more manageable devices. That display is sharp enough at Full HD, although on our review device, not as punchy as the M8 we've been using over the past year. BoomSound speakers also continue to be best in class.

So is the HTC One M9 a winner? We'd love to be say "yes" unconditionally, but we'll have to qualify it a bit. Yes, the One M9 is a clear champ for the HTC camp, especially HTC One owners. It addresses many of the complaints that One M7 and M8 owners had and lavishes premium craftsmanship for those who are already fans of its design. In short, the HTC One M9 is perhaps the best fan service that the manufacturer can give.

Apple has nothing to prove, especially to HTC. Already, the iPhone 6 is a highly coveted and sought out smartphone that’s always in demand by consumers all around – and there’s no surprise that it’s a big seller too! HTC knew what it had to do in order to keep pace and stay relevant against the iPhone 6, but even though it’s able to impress in some areas, namely its software experience, design, and call quality performance, the overall package doesn’t quite have the necessary firework to give demanding consumers the kind of spark to draw them in.

The HTC One M9 is a beautifully crafted handset, next to which Samsung's Galaxy S5 looks quite average, not to mention the aesthetic appeal of Sense 7 over the TouchWiz interface. On paper the HTC beast has every reason to feel superior, too, with a much faster chipset, stereo speakers, and higher camera resolutions. In reality, however, the situation is more nuanced.

The One M9 smacks of HTC playing to the HTC faithful: a device that’s designed to answer the lingering complaints of current users, and play up to their design tastes. On that level, it does very well. Viewed as part of the smartphone spectrum in 2015 as a whole, however, and the strategy feels myopic. There's none of the goofball appeal of the HTC RE camera, for instance, which while wacky is at least memorable. In short, I’m not entirely sure there’s enough to the HTC One M9 to address what has long been HTC’s biggest issue: clawing enough attention out of the gate from its well-heeled, well-marketed rivals.

At the end of the day, the HTC One M9 is a great smartphone. With an awesome design, top notch performance, great software and an improved camera, it should suit most users just fine. But at the same time it no longer sits at the top of the flagship smartphone pecking order. HTC’s competitors have doubled down on areas where the One M9 isn’t as strong, making the choice of what high-end smartphone to buy a whole lot less clear than this time last year.

Let me make one thing clear: the HTC One M9 is an excellent phone, filled to the brim with good features, a clever interface and a design that it should rightly be proud of, once again showing every other brand how it should be done. The issue is that it doesn't improve enough. The One M8 was pretty much the perfect phone, and not much has changed year on year… in fact, HTC has gone backwards on battery life and hasn't really done much more than polish throughout the phone.

One year, that’s the typical cycle a company needs in order to make the necessary adjustments in making a new phone better than the previous one. As we take a look at the bigger picture, we certainly can agree that the HTC One M9, as a whole, has been tweaked and refined to correct the issues that were left outstanding with the M8. Visually, there are subtle changes to the design of the M9, but at the end of the day, it commands respect for continuing to be one of the best designed phones out there – more so when it embodies the qualities we want in a high-end product.

The verdict? We're tempted to say the Nexus 6 had an easy time, but the reality is that so long as aesthetics guide consumers' purchasing decisions, HTC's One line will continue resonating well with buyers. In such a scenario, Google's device strikes us as the more logical pick for the power user crowd, especially the phablet-loving part of it, but not necessarily the masses' favorite.

Despite being the newer and better-spec'd phone, the HTC One M9 is not necessarily running circles around the Motorola Moto X 2014. Yes, it's more powerful and future-proof, but the Moto X still holds its ground. To sum things up, the HTC One M9 will woo customers with its sleek build and powerful hardware; meanwhile, the Moto X doesn't shine hardware-wise, but it still has what it takes to be an attractive and affordable alternative to a number of newer phones, the HTC One M9 included.

But only M8 owners care about the first thing, and only phone geeks care about the second. For the regular Joes and Janes shopping for an Android phone, the One M9 still stands out amid a sea of plastic-clad rivals. Its metallic fuselage catches the eye, and going hands-on is like a firm handshake: reassuring and not soon forgotten. The M9 is for these folks – people who haven’t owned an HTC phone before. Like an S-model iPhone, it’s meant to be familiar rather than groundbreaking, accessible rather than revolutionary. It’s no Porsche 911, and it’s certainly not going to propel HTC to new heights all on its own … but it is, for now, a worthy custodian of the company’s iconic smartphone legacy.

HTC has traditionally launched some of the prettiest Android phones, but Samsung has turned things around with its all metal and glass, Quad HD Samsung Galaxy S6. With a better screen, a faster-clocked processor and some extras such as a fingerprint scanner and heart-rate monitor, you might assume the Galaxy S6 is the better deal. However, until we've finished our full lab-testing we are unable to comment on such things as raw processor- and photography performance. Check back soon for our verdict.

The M9 is extremely responsive, the display still looks fantastic, BoomSound speakers perform well, and the improvements in the design are easily worth an upgrade from a M7. The HTC One M9 is the sort of phone that we expected the brand to make, hitting the right marks without wowing in the same way rivals are this year. The One M9+, by itself, is a mixed bag. The design is decent, if a bit over-the-top, but the screen's color balance leaves a lot to be desired, just like that of the M9. The chipset here, the MediaTek Helio X10, does a good job with system performance, but isn't quite top of the line. And while Sense 7.0 UI does appear mature and coherent enough, the user experience as a whole isn't as polished or seamless as we'd like it to be. It's a bit rough around the edges. Factor in the mediocre camera and unsatisfying call quality, and there just doesn't seem to be that much in the HTC One M9+ to keep us interested. Come on, HTC, we know you can do better than that!

The HTC One M9+ is an improvement on the regular One M9 in a number of areas. It runs cooler with barely any difference in the daily experience when it comes to performance. The battery life is similar or better, despite the boosted display, but the lack of Quick Charge 2.0 compatibility is a shame. The display is larger at 5.2-inches, so suitability will come down to personal preference, but its qHD resolution means it's sharper and looks better, which is reason enough to opt for this phone over the M9. Then there is the high quality build and the addition of a fingerprint scanner, plus speakers that are amongst the best out there, with a mature software experience bringing everything together.

The M9+ is the step forward that perhaps the M9 should have been. With a bigger, more pixel-packed screen and a fingerprint scanner it's much more welcome at the next-gen superphone party, and it's dressed just as smartly as before.

The HTC One M9+ is already available in markets like China and India, and has recently become available on Amazon for purchase in the US, with a price tag of around $710, which does fluctuate though. The HTC One M9+ is good at looking good, but that's about where its appeal ends for us. We were hoping for HTC to emerge from its experimental phase with a winner, but that wasn't to be. Unless looks are your top priority, chances are you'd be happier with one of the many available alternatives.

On the specs alone the HTC One M9+ is clearly the better phone in this comparison, and its higher price attests to that. We're drawn to the M9+ because it is the M9 we wanted to see unveiled at MWC, with a Quad HD screen and fingerprint scanner. But as a cheaper alternative, the plastic E9+ is a nice option with a larger screen. Now let's just hope we can get hold of them in the UK.

The whole purpose of a secondary flagship with a lower price tag is to attract customers who might not pay the premium price for a flagship. On the contrary, they might be able to loosen their wallets for a lower priced device. Unfortunately for HTC, this year, it’s flagship phone the HTC One M9 Plus has not been able to live up to the hype it created. However, with a lower price tag, a reliable build and a dependable performance, HTC One E9 Plus is a contender.

HTC's densely populated high-end lineup has a different model for everyone, but not one that covers all bases. It could be argued that the company attempted to specifically cater to different users in a bid to grab a wider market share. In the end we get some distribution of features among a myriad of devices. Each model comes with a set of compromises and instead of getting praised for what it does have, the One M9 generation of smartphones ends up being an easy target for criticism.

The HTC One M8s doesn’t feel new or exciting. It feels like a repackage of the One M8s, with some of the flashy bits traded-in for cheaper components. However, after starting off skeptical, we’ve come around. You know what: the One M8s makes a lot of sense, especially when it has none of the naff bits of the ‘Mini’ flagship alternatives of the last few years.

HTC sure knows how to confuse us, and with the One M8s we are positively stumped. On the one hand, you have the One M9, a metal thing of beauty that packs all of HTC’s smarts and tech features into one glorious looking package with absolute disastrous battery life, and on the other hand, consumers can find the One M8s, a recycled product that outperforms its high-priced M9 brother in so many ways and supports the DotView cases that don’t work on the M9.

Despite its imitative appearance, the HTC One A9 is a worthy successor to the company's long line of high-quality mid-range handsets. It's a shame the company initially priced it so it competed against other high end premium smartphones, though, as it can't compete at that level.

The HTC One A9 is a good looking phone with a great screen, good performance, up-to-date software, a good fingerprint sensor, and a decent set of cameras. It gets all the basic functionality right, with excellent network and Wi-Fi handling, along with good audio quality in calls. Battery life and the audio output from its single speaker are its only real weaknesses. The iPhone-like design, whether deliberate or not, may get it some negative publicity, but at Rs. 29,990, this HTC phone is pure quality at a reasonable price, and should give devices such as the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) (Review) serious competition.

Everything about HTC’s One A9 comes down to its price – Rs 32,900. Let that digest for a bit. HTC expects you to spend more on the HTC One A9 than you would on a Nexus 5X, the Moto X Style or even the ridiculously specced LeEco Le Max Pro. There are a whole range of sub-Rs 15,000 phones that will offer comparable, if not better, specs and performance. It’s inconceivable to spend this much on the A9 unless you’re a die-hard HTC fan who doesn’t mind a sub-par iPhone clone. The phone isn’t bad and at half the price, we just might recommend it.

The HTC One A9 is just another Android phone from the company. Apart from the great camera features, there’s nothing here that would make this a ‘flagship’ or stand-out model, and mind you there are certainly more powerful and better equipped phones in the market at the moment. We regard the One A9 with a certain sadness. It's a good smartphone in many respects, particularly in its design and choice of Android 6.0 Marshmallow as an OS, but the hefty price tag is a huge barrier to success. Most inexplicably, it defeats the entire point. The One A9 is supposed to be a stripped-down but more affordable alternative to the One M9, but the One M9 has dropped well below £300 at a number of reputable retailers, so why not just get that instead?

The HTC One A9 is supposedly the one smartphone to turn around HTC's low sales and redeem past mistakes. And it's a mid-ranger everybody should be delighted to have - the One A9 comes in a beautiful, sleek metal unibody, with a great 5" AMOLED screen, a capable enough Snapdragon 617 chip and there is even an optically stabilized 13MP camera on the back. Looking back at my rather bizarre, rambling and confused post about the HTC One M9, I think I was asking for a bit more. The phone was fantastic, don’t get me wrong, but I knew that HTC could do more and it could also be different. They were almost in a rut, and HTC were losing their sparkle, but this thing… this thing is nothing short of spectacular. If I’m to pick anything in particular, I’d highlight the design more than anything. It’s fantastic to hold and so easy on the eye. I’ve looked at the Samsung handsets and, I’ve got to say, this looks and feels better. It just does. It feels natural in a way. Like a handset that someone, somewhere has been working on for years in a basement at HTC.

The HTC One A9 doesn't have many direct competitors in its size class, and its $499 price tag puts it in an odd middle ground between $650 premium devices and $150-300 budget models. There's the older , still on sale; the more expensive iPhone 6 and Galaxy S6; and the considerably less expensive, cheaper-feeling and . The rumored OnePlus X might also be around this size. We love the HTC One A9 and we think it's the most exciting handset HTC has launched in 2015. We'd pick it over the M9 because it has charm that the flagship lacks. Despite being less powerful and lesser featured, the A9 offers a number of advantages: the fingerprint scanner is fast and lovely to use; the design is wonderful, giving a feel in the hand that's superior to many rival devices; the battery life is surprisingly good; and the tweaks to the camera give a better experience than it's bigger brother too.

Yes, if you want a phone that's easier to use one-handed, the One A9 lacks many of the compromises smaller Android devices have historically made. I'm not alone in coveting a roughly 5-inch phone with flagship specifications, rather than the phablet screen that generally comes with such hardware, but I'm not sure I could live with such battery life from a $500 device, not to mention the knowledge that there were significantly better cameras out there for the same money.

It’s just a pity that the UK price of the HTC One A9 makes it just about as expensive as higher-end mobiles like the Samsung Galaxy S6. I'm still not entirely sure what this phone is all about. It's a well-crafted device that's almost a flagship in many ways, and yet goes in a completely different design direction to the M line-up. HTC's latest premium phone is more than just an iPhone clone - it's easily the most solid built handset the company has made yet. While it does lack raw power compared to its M9 sibling, there are no BoomSound speakers and its camera does leave us wanting more, it's a solid performer and its fingerprint scanner is wicked fast. If you're after an iPhone running Android, it's easily well worth a look, but it's incredibly expensive for what you get, especially in the UK - look elsewhere if you're after flagship performance paired with flagship looks.

Go with the HTC One A9 for that particular reason, which interestingly enough, is what HTC has constantly built its reputation around time-after-time with its flagships. HTC’s regard for what a flagship smartphone should be might be different from everyone else, but if they’re able to carefully use this new opportunity to their advantage, it’s plausible that this might be the beginning of a reversal for the company’s handset division.

If you can get past the uncanny iPhone resemblance and you're willing to pre-order the HTC One A9 in the next couple of weeks, then you'll get a good value on a very nice phone. If it stayed at that price, we'd give it a fairly high recommendation and consider it an encouraging sign from HTC. But with that price hike, the A9 doesn't offer enough incentive for you to choose it over its best rivals. If you're reading this after November 7, you're probably better off looking elsewhere.

Is that an overly dramatic reading of the situation? Probably so. Will ordinary people care about the departure the One A9 represents from HTC’s traditional design? Definitely not. In fact, for those few smartphone shoppers who carefully compare prices and find the HTC One A9 $150-$250 cheaper than an iPhone 6s, the decision will likely be a fairly easy one. We hope for HTC’s sake that there are many such people. But few Android shoppers are likely to have the iPhone in mind when considering the One A9 (at least until they pick it up), and we genuinely believe that HTC has hurt the phone’s prospects by pricing it like a flagship. Accordingly, we recommend that those interested in buying a One A9 either do so right away to take advantage of the promotional price – or wait a few months for the inevitable price drop to arrive down the road.

After the One M9 failed to find its footing, HTC cooked up a sequel with a new but derivative look. It's a well-built device and is one of the first to ship with Google's latest version of Android, but some of the One series' hallmark features are nowhere to be found. It has been a while since we got excited over an HTC device, the company just went into a cycle of re-releasing the One M9 with minor tweaks. Worse, a month after anyone buys an M9, a new, slightly better one comes along, souring consumers. The HTC One A9 is the first device to properly feel like a new launch - the start of something new and hopefully a new path for the company. It's no secret that HTC has been hurting on profits and market share and it needs a hero device to pull it out of the rut.

The HTC One A9's most direct competition at this point looks to be the Nexus 5X, which starts at $379, has a slightly larger 5.2-inch 1080p display and also runs Marshmallow out of the box. Arguably, the A9's metal body is sleeker than the 5X—and it has a microSD card slot—but the latter has a more powerful Snapdragon 808 processor and a larger 2,700-mAh battery, which lasted 11 hours and 30 minutes on our battery test.

The HTC One A9 is more than a handset, it is also the manifestation of a new HTC direction which is much more realistic, in a difficult competitive and economic environment. I wish that HTC had made these choices a few years ago, instead of insisting on things such as pouring resources into HTC Sense, heavily promote Audio, or fighting with an ineffective low-light Camera strategy, at the expense of more common sense user needs.

The HTC One E9s Dual SIM is a good smartphone, no doubt. It has everything you need from a mid-range device, including good design, decent specifications, good cameras and enough bite in the performance to keep mid-range users happy. However, HTC needs to do a bit more than that to get buyers' attention in this competitive market, and One E9s Dual SIM unfortunately doesn't have anything out-of-the-box to offer. While the Amoled screen is decent, it's low resolution is evident, and this is severely disappointing for a device at this price level. It also costs far too much when compared to devices such as the Honor 7 (Review | Pictures), which offers much more bang for your buck. The HTC One E9s Dual SIM will lose out against such competitors because it is a straightforward and unexciting device. However, if you're only looking for reliability and functionality, it's definitely worth considering.

The HTC One X9 was launched in India back in May at a price of Rs. 25,990, but only went on sale in July and is currently available for around Rs. 23,990. This phone's metal body and good display performance make for a good package. However, the camera and battery life are disappointing and, overall, it isn't very easy to recommend the X9 with more powerful competition like the Xiaomi Mi 5 and Le Max 2 at around the same price point.

While HTC has certainly build some brand value to have its own pricing ecosystem keep a tag to its newest offerings, the competition outside has grown exorbitantly. HTC acknowledged that with its flagship HTC 10, but like last year, its mid-range and budget devices haven’t seen a new innovation, or a more market-driven price. The X9 is certainly an improvement over the last year’s sub-30k offering, but fails to offer something great beyond the brand value.

The One X9 is just too expensive for what it provides. The Moto G4 is a better phone and it’s just $200, while the Nexus 5X is available for under $300. Both are cheaper and significantly better than the One X9 across the board. Even in Australia (where the One X9 is widely available) its AU$480 price makes it hard to recommend over the aforementioned devices, both which are at least $80 cheaper. This makes the One X9 a disappointing offering, and another nail in the coffin for mid-range smartphones. At the high-end, HTC has a really compelling device in the HTC 10, but this success hasn’t trickled down to the company’s cheaper devices.

The HTC One X9 is indeed a great smartphone. It packs in one of the better cameras that we have seen from HTC so far and currently the only one in the company’s premium range to feature BoomSound with a dual front-facing speaker setup. What shines through however is the quality and premium looks of the device, even though it belongs to the mid-range.

Slightly overpriced but a great phone for gamers and audiophiles. Certainly, it’s a phone made especially suiting customer’s demands of more juice with fast charging, great camera and a flawless design to sum up the how premium the phone is. A powerful traditional phone keeping in mind with the modernity of society blended well without anything to crib about.

The HTC One X9 is a nice looking phone, if a little chunky. It's not going to be the big hitter from the brand at this conference, let's be honest, nor will it pull up any trees in terms of sales.

Although there’s a lot to like about the HTC One X9, it’s not the flagship phone we were hoping for. It’s a sort of mash up of a few different previous phone from the company. A larger phone with some decent specs will appeal to some but we’re holding out for the One M10.

It’s currently unclear if the HTC One X9 will appear in the UK and how much it will cost. But I’m quietly pleased with the tweaks the company has made to the handset. While it doesn’t rework the wheel, the One X9 could potentially fix many of the issues I had with the A9. Hopefully, HTC will continue to learn from its past mistakes and price the One X9 competitively.

A lot will hang on how the HTC One X9 is priced. That's the missing piece of the puzzle here. The HTC One A9 was far too expensive when it appeared in the UK and we're hoping that the One X9 can keep things in check. There's a danger, however, that rivalry from the likes of OnePlus, Huawei and others, will make this HTC handset seem too expensive.
