Lenovo has taken some unusual design decisions with the Legion 5 Pro, and we’re pleased to report that they’ve mostly worked out well. The display is superb. The extra height delivers welcome real estate for games and work. The resolution is high enough to provide crisp gameplay which can be handled by the included GPU, it delivers exceptional brightness and good color accuracy. You’ll only want something better if you need a faster display for high-end esports or creative work, and both will cost loads more. Lenovo’s machine has a comfortable, quiet keyboard, solid connectivity, and it’s got decent internals -- of course, there are various configurations available that seem to be priced competitively. The graphics core will handle almost any gaming task, and the processor is quick even if it doesn’t achieve its full potential. That’s about all we can ask for from a laptop at this price, and the Legion manages to keep the noise down to reasonable levels in most mainstream situations. As ever, there are some areas where this laptop doesn’t quite succeed.

This won’t be the last gaming laptop to have poor battery life, though, and the Lenovo impresses in plenty of other departments. The 16:10, high-resolution screen has fantastic quality, the components are fast, and the chassis is robust and well connected. Its fans can get loud and the trackpad is disappointing, butthose issues aren’t dealbreakers or unique to this machine. There’s an awful lot to like on this laptop, from the powerful components to the large, impressive display, especially at this price.

The Lenovo Legion 5 Pro is impressive in games: the 16:10 display offers tremendous quality and immersion, the graphics card is faster, and the keyboard is comfortable. This machine features great connectivity too. It’s occasionally loud, though, and you’ll want to look elsewhere if you want a lighter laptop or a machine with better battery life.

All told, the Legion 5 Pro is an excellent laptop. It looks nice, it’s built well, and it’s fairly priced, considering the options you have available. You’ll easily pay more for a Razer Blade 15 Advanced and about the same for the Alienware m15 R4. While the latter includes a 4K display, you hit diminishing returns over QHD resolutions on a laptop screen. Lenovo’s Legion brand name doesn’t hit as hard as, say, Razer, Alienware, or Asus ROG, but this laptop proves that Lenovo means business. If gaming laptops are your thing, the Legion 5 Pro is worth keeping in mind.

If I had Rs 1.8 lakh to spare, I wouldn’t hesitate in picking up the Legion 5 Pro. This laptop is sensibly designed and is, without a doubt, one of the best gaming laptops you can get for under Rs 2 lakh. Battery life could have been better, and I’d have liked to see a bit more RAM for heavier workloads, but with a display this good and upgradeable storage, it feels churlish to complain.

The Legion 5 Pro gaming laptop has little flaws, and most aren’t a big problem. Among such cons, I can mention the average battery life. The Legion 5 Pro impressed me a lot, and I can recommend it to anyone who wants to buy a modern gaming laptop, play on a 16-inch QHD+ display and is looking for high performance for an affordable price. This is a powerful gaming machine that is also good for games and everyday tasks.

The Legion 5 Pro is an excellent laptop in so many ways. The main draw is the 16-inch 16:10 screen, which is bright and beautiful, even if just standard gamut. The appeal doesn't end there either. The build quality is excellent, the battery life is above average and the performance is about as good as it gets at this weight class, plus the price is right too. My only nits to pick are with my palms accidentally brushing the trackpad and the slightly mushy keyboard, which are minor. We'll get in-depth in the detailed review down below.

The new Legion 5 is yet another great option in this increasingly contested section of the laptop market. It’s capable of superior gaming performance than both the Acer Nitro 5 and the Asus TUF Dash F15 and it also comes within striking distance of the far pricier Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 as well. It’s not just about gaming, though: the Legion 5 both looks and feels like a more upmarket device than the Nitro or the Dash, although granted the former is £300 cheaper and the Asus does have a better sound system and longer-lasting battery life. If it was my money, however, then I’d say the Lenovo just about edges it. I mostly use headphones while gaming anyway and usually have my laptop plugged into the wall no matter what I'm doing. And besides, the Legion 5’s unmatched gaming credentials massively outweigh any of its minor setbacks.

But if you can understand why the laptop is “so thick” (cooling) and would rather spend your money on hardware that plays games, the Legion 5 Pro offers a refreshing take. It’s still a thick and heavy laptop in Lenovo’s brutalist style, and the fans are loud when you play games, and the battery basically isn’t worth talking about because when you play unplugged, you’ll get two hours max. But it offers gamers a portable, high-performance platform, with the flagship features that matter: display, graphics chip, and high-speed SSD. There are gaming laptops that feel more special than the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro, and there are gaming laptops that are cheaper. But the price-performance balance here is worth your consideration. Just don’t let the competitors distract you with their pretty lights.

The Lenovo Legion 5 Pro is an excellent gaming laptop, a match for something like the Alienware m15 R6 in most respects, but it costs less. Its screen is excellent and, largely thanks to Nvidia DLSS, higher-resolution displays in laptops like this no longer seem frivolous luxuries. There are just two potential problems: you may find the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro a bit dull if you'd choose to put RGB lighting into your toaster; the touchpad is a weak point too - it's a plastic pad that doesn't match up to the quality of the other parts. This one feels like it wants to spend most of its time rooted to a desk with a separate mouse plugged in, though, so that second point may not matter too much. Because, without doubt, the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro is one of the best gaming laptops to arrive in 2021.

All-in-all, I feel like it checks the right boxes for the mainstream gamer. For the entry-level, you can still look toward Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming, HP Pavilion Gaming, Acer Nitro, or something along those lines. If you’re an enthusiast gamer, then you probably already know this isn’t the machine for you. You’re probably looking at laptops that have all-new ways of innovative cooling, more powerful graphics, RGB lighting, and more. The Lenovo Legion 5 Pro fits right into that mainstream. This is where you want the performance for a great gaming experience, but you don’t quite want to sacrifice the benefits of a great productivity experience to get there.

As I said, some of the only caveats I can find with the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 16 is its less than stellar battery life and its heavier build. But, for the most part, the laptop is still a very solid performer. Of all the AMD Ryzen-powered gaming laptops I have tested this year, the Legion 5 Pro 16 is a reminder that you don’t necessarily have to amputate your limbs in order to own a top-end gaming laptop. Even if the very best NVIDIA GeForce mobile GPU Lenovo can offer is seemingly just an RTX 3070, but that is, in my opinion, more than plenty to comfortably run the majority of today’s triple-A titles. If that isn’t enough, remember that you’re also getting a large 16-inch display with a higher-than-average refresh rate, as well as slightly more screen real estate, thanks to its 16:10 aspect ratio. All this can be yours for less than RM9000.

There is lots to like about this machine, although the snips made to push the price down are sure to rankle some. The battery life is well below par, the thermals could do with refinement, and the webcam would look retrograde on even a five-year-old machine. But, if you’re going to stick this on a desk, keep it constantly plugged in to power and never do more than the odd Zoom, does any of that matter?

From ThinkPads to Yogas, Lenovo has earned a reputation for making quality laptops. It's why the company sells more notebooks than any other brand. However, gaming is one segment where Lenovo lags behind some of its rivals. The Legion 5 Pro has convinced me that it could change that. Yes, the design is bland, but Lenovo's other wildly popular products are successful because they address function before form — much like the Legion 5 Pro. The Legion does get a yellow card caution for some warm temps under a heavy load and it's a hefty rig compared to sleeker rivals. If you're looking for something more travel-friendly, consider the 4.2-pound Asus ROG Zephyrus G15. Otherwise, the Legion 5 Pro is an excellent option for gamers who want the best performance for the price.

The recently reviewed Legion 5 Pro is, in our estimation, a stand-out choice at £1,500, and in the £1,000 to £1,300 bracket, the Legion 5 plays an important supporting role. Giving users a more affordable path to eight-core Ryzen 7 5800H processing and dedicated GeForce RTX graphics, the second-tier model delivers a familiar performance punch with a few specification downgrades that most gamers will be happy to live with.

Lenovo's Legion 5 Pro ($1,529.99 as tested) delivers the latest AMD and Nvidia technology in a chassis that's a bit of a throwback to the bulky gaming laptop days of yore. Given the power it possesses, however, you might not care that the Legion's more than an inch thick and that its design is a bit drab. It's built around an expansive 16-inch QHD (2,560-by-1,600-pixel) display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, which sits between more popular 15.6- and 17.3-inch panels with 16:9 ratios. The Lenovo teams an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H processor with Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 graphics, and off to the races it goes—it outclasses its Intel competition in multithreaded benchmarks and is also a step ahead of the Alienware m15 Ryzen Edition R5, which features the same CPU and GPU pairing.

There's no such thing as the perfect gaming laptop, but on the balance of play, Lenovo gets enough right for the Legion 5 Pro to be deemed a stand-out choice at the £1,500 price point. An eight-core AMD Ryzen 7 5800H processor and up to 140W GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop graphics make for an enviable combination, but what really makes the laptop shine is the 16:10 Dolby Vision display. Just be aware that as with all gaming laptops, there are inevitable trade-offs. In this instance they include a hefty 2.5kg weight, middling battery life, noisy fans, and the absence of biometric security. Bottom line: stock might be hard to come by, but if you're willing to wait, Lenovo's Legion 5 Pro is an early contender for best gaming laptop of 2021.

While those issues aren’t total deal breakers, this laptop isn’t available at the moment anyway. Lenovo currently lists it as temporarily unavailable, and it’s not available from 3rd-party sellers either. We reached out to Lenovo to confirm this, however more units should be available from Lenovo direct and from Walmart near the end of June or beginning of July. In the meantime, something like the Asus ROG Strix G15 AMD Advantage Edition or HP Omen are great alternatives to this Legion laptop. Both have comparable configuration options for close to the same price, or cheaper. The Lenovo Legion 5 Pro Gen 6 is an incredible machine that, excluding a few design choices, hits all the right notes: Decent battery life, snappy keys, high-end performance, vibrant display, and so many connectivity ports. If you need a laptop for both gaming and creative work, this one can go the distance.

The Lenovo Legion 5 Pro makes a lot of things seem easy. At its core, it’s a gaming laptop that plays games very well. But it also has a wonderfully expansive 16-inch QHD (technically WQXGA, since it’s 2560 x 1600) resolution display that’s great for gaming and other use cases. Notably, this is a 16:10 aspect ratio screen, and my eyeballs appreciate the luxury of having more stuff to look at without needing to scroll or resize windows to fit within view. Lenovo’s combo of a taller, high-resolution screen is what you’ll want in your next gaming laptop, even if you don’t know it yet.
