The ThinkPad T460s offers a strong combination of performance, usability and portability, thanks to its svelte chassis, accurate screen and comfortable touchpad. However, a relatively stiff keyboard (for a ThinkPad) and below-average battery life prevent it from surpassing its predecessor and becoming our favorite business laptop.

As is appropriate for a business notebook, Lenovo keeps bloatware to a minimum. You get the apps and utilities that ship with Windows 10 Pro, plus Lenovo’s own management utilities, and that's just about it. (All that irked us was a McAfee LiveSafe Internet Security trial.)

Lenovo once again managed to deliver a premium 14-inch business laptop by which most others will be judged. Unfortunately, the ThinkPad T460s doesn’t completely leapfrog its predecessor … and that is a potential problem for customers. Yes, the “road warriors” who frequently depend on ThinkPads appreciate thinner and lighter notebooks. Despite that fact, we doubt those same business travelers appreciate loosing the option to keep their notebooks running for an extra four hours or more.

The base-model ThinkPad T460 comes with Windows 10 Home edition, but we suspect most business buyers will step up to the Pro version for just $30 more. If you’re still enamored with Windows 7, you can opt for that (well, it’s pre-installed, and can be resurrected via the Windows 10 Pro “downgrade”), but that rollback will cost you $70. Go figure.
